3 Part Lesson -- Marcelo surfaces after submerged with a Guillotine: When threatened with a Guillotine Choke, jump and pass to the side opposite of your head. Avoid getting put inside your opponent's Half-Guard; use your hand to block his or her leg from catching yours while you hop over to safety. Bind together the opponent's legs with Koshigatame (Hip-Lock, aka Double-Leg Control) to prevent a reset and force the opponent to tire out his or her grip. You can also transition to Kamishihogatame (Upper Four-Quarter Pin, aka North/South) if the opponent's hands don't readily separate. [04:24] If you get caught inside the opponent's Half-Guard, post your hands against his or her knees and use your free foot to press off and pry out of the lock over to the safe-side. [07:56] If you don't have enough time to slip your leg free because the choke is effective, perform a Back-Step and swing your body over to the safe-side. Finish the pass and prepare to catch the opponent's legs before they can reset the choke.
