Marcelo shares an important set of concepts to Mark about explosive escapes: When stuck in a variety of circumstances, e.g. Double-Overs, Rubber-Guard, or even Choke-Defense, it is important not to telegraph your intentions to your opponent. Don't slowly generate movement towards your goal; your opponent can pick up on your motion and adjust accordingly. They may try to hold onto your more tightly, or release you quickly to get ahead of the position. Instead, burst out of the hold almost spontaneously, not letting your opponent have chance to correctly read your plans of escape and time an appropriate response. Not every situation requires an explosive effort; although certain scenarios may warrant this method as a viable first option, otherwise your risk letting your opponent control the pace of the match.
